The Legal Advice and Training Project was established in 2004. It was recognised that accessible client-centred legal intervention makes a critical contribution towards the safety and well-being of women who have experienced violence.
The aim of the project is to improve access, through justice, for women experiencing gender based violence. The majority of our clients come from impoverished areas where the rate of unemployment is very high and drug abuse is rife.
The Legal Project, which is the only one in the surrounding area, assist women with protection orders, divorce orders, maintenance applications and other family related legal matters. We get referrals from other legal advice offices, social workers, other shelters, police stations, among others.
